Indoor Air Quality Can Decline in the Spring — 7 Ways to Combat It
Indoor air quality can really decline in the spring if you’re not careful, especially in our temperamental Florida climate. Here are seven ways you can improve the quality of air in your home.
- Remove your shoes. Most dirt and dust in your home is actually brought in from the outside on our shoes. Have both family and guests take their shoes off as soon as they enter.
- Replace your kitchen sponge every week or soak it in bleach for 15 minutes to keep hundreds of thousands of bacteria out of the air.
- Keep mold out of your home by installing a whole home dehumidifier and drying up any leaks, spills or moist areas as soon as possible.
- Install a germicidal light system in your HVAC system to further purify your air. It will reduce mold, bacteria and viruses that grow all around your house.
- To kill dust mites and remove excess skin cells from the air, wash your bedding regularly in hot water.
- Keep your windows closed at night. Install fans and other ventilation systems to ensure that you’re comfortable while you sleep but that foreign substances, such as pollen, are kept outside.
- Inspect your HVAC air filter at least once a month, and change it when it looks dirty. The filter keeps your air clean and also maintains the energy efficiency of your HVAC system. Contact a trusted HVAC professional with any maintenance questions or concerns.
